Cup of Excellence is the premier coffee competition and auction worldwide. The level of scrutiny that Cup of Excellence coffees undergo is unmatched anywhere in the specialty coffee industry. Each year, thousands of coffees are submitted for consideration, with winning coffees sold in global online auctions at premium prices, with the vast majority of auction proceeds going to the farmers.

The Cup of Excellence competition has pioneered integrity and transparency in the coffee industry, ensuring the value of winning coffees!.

This year and after 4 hours and half of pure adrenaline and caffeine battle during COE Burundi Auction, Mare Terra brings the #11 Rank Winning Farm... Nkaka.

Nkaka was built in 1979 in the Mwumba Commune in the Ngozi province. It lies at an altitude of 1675m. It is named after the small Nkaka River that passes through the region. Legend has it that men would go to this river after drinking too much beer to sober up before going home. If they arrived late and were asked where they had been, they would say that they had come from 'Nkaka'. This washing station collects cherries from over 2400 local coffee farmers spread over the 13 neighboring colonies. During the harvest season, Nkaka processes more than 1200 tons of coffee.
